Traditions evolve, and new customs breathe fresh air into Gangcheng. On October 6th, a lively event featuring traditional wedding customs took place at the Persimmon Tree Campsite in Sunjiazhuang Village, Yanzhuang Sub-District, Gangcheng District, Jinan. This event was part of an initiative to promote modernized customs.
Accompanied by ancient music, a refined and elegant Song Dynasty-style wedding performance set a romantic tone. The groom wore traditional black gauze and embroidered robes, while the bride donned a phoenix crown and red wedding attire. Ceremonies such as the wine-drinking ritual, the bride's departure from her family, and the groom's procession to welcome her, all rich in cultural meaning, unfolded gracefully. The atmosphere was elegant, simple yet solemn, embodying the unique way Chinese people express love and commitment.
This performance wasn't just romantic but also a way to pass on traditions. It was more than just a ceremony - it was a serious celebration of love. "When we first met, we were too shy to look at each other. We married first and fell in love later, and it’s worked out wonderfully." "We both met in a choir during a performance, and we just clicked.""All we needed for our wedding was a wardrobe and a bed." "We’ve always discussed things and never fought." These were the stories shared by six elderly couples about their journeys from meeting to falling in love, offering wisdom from their long, happy marriages. Husbands even applied makeup and decorated their wives with flowers, demonstrating their lifelong commitment and encouraging younger couples to adopt healthy views on marriage and family, while promoting positive cultural values.

A skit titled “Wedding Tales” addressed issues such as bride prices and wedding preparations, encouraging couples to hold simple weddings, focus on love, and return to the true meaning of marriage.
The entire event radiated happiness and touched many in the audience. Zhao Mingzhi, a visitor from Linyi, said, "My girlfriend and I came to the campsite for a trip, and we happened to catch this event. We were deeply moved. When we get married next year, we’ll keep it simple too - it saves time and energy. Happiness is what really matters!"
At the event, there was also a display of ancient artifacts and an award ceremony for the children who won the "Civilized Customs Around Us" drawing contest, with their works on display. In addition, the Gangcheng branch of China Life Insurance donated 5,000 yuan worth of supplies to the Sunjiazhuang Village’s Happiness Canteen. The district’s civil affairs bureau also provided a thoughtful service, helping elderly couples reissue their marriage certificates for free, allowing them to relive their romantic moments.
